In Bunning Park, bounded by Elk Street (State Route 430), Elias Avenue, Evans Street, and Noble Drive. The statue was originally erected by the American Legion at the intersection of B Street and 4th Street (now Broadway) between the post office and City Hall (now the Rock Springs Historical Museum). The statue was moved and rededicated by the Legion in 1926 to Rock Springs Municipal Park (now Bunning Park).

The inscription on the plaque reads:

(followed by a list of 33 names, with ranks, military unit numbers, and dates of death. Nine were killed in the last month of the war, one in the last five days and another in the last four days.)
The badly deteriorated Doughboy (above, left) was refurbished by Debra Uhls of Abaris Metal Works in 1996. At that time, the upper portion of the pedestal was added as a deterrent to vandalism. While the bayonet is missing, the Doughboy appears to be in good condition.
