1928: VIQUESNEY MEMORIAL PLAQUE AT MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA
In his 1946 self-written "life history" published in his obituary, Viquesney mentioned over "870" war memorials to his credit. Whether he actually made that many or not is open to debate, but there were probably dozens that were just plaques, like the one found at Malvern, Pennsylvania. This eagle-design plaque is commonly found installed on many Viquesney Doughboys throughout the country. Although there are plaques by other makers with similar eagle logos, Viquesney's design is recognizable to the discerning eye.
Was there supposed to be a Viquesney Doughboy statue at Malvern? Nobody knows. An entry was included for Malvern on Viquesney's 1935 partial list of unspecified "memorials", but no Doughboy was ever installed there. It seems to be another case of Viquesney playing "fast-and-loose" with his ad wording.
