NEW YORK
The state of New York has three Doughboys associated with E. M. Viquesney. Two are signed copies at Castile and Harrison, and the third is a copy-after at Vestal made from Viquesney's molds but signed and copyrighted by a sculptor named "M. Laugle" and titled "Spirit of Our Heroes". It was damaged and (badly) repaired, with the rifle now held in front with both hands, so that it is no longer in the "standard" "Spirit of the American Doughboy" pose. It is unknown how M. Laugle was able to copyright the design already owned by Viquesney.
