1929: "MOTHER"
(A Madonna with Child Figure)
(A Madonna with Child Figure)
This piece was acquired by Viquesney researcher T. Perry Wesley, who presented it to his caregiver Mary Lee Brinson before he died. It was seen in her apartment by Earl Goldsmith, who noted the title on the front as "Mother", and Viquesney's signature and date of 1929 on the back. Unfortunately Earl didn't get any closer photos; the piece was sitting on a shelf in a corner, and is cropped and greatly enlarged here, hence the poor detail. But enough is visible to recognize it as a Madonna-with-Child figure. It is a white glass lamp with an art-deco "cloud" design light diffuser in back, identical to one of the lamp versions of the artist's 1930 piece, "Zero Hour".
The piece may still be in the possession of one of Mary Lee Brinson's children.
