COPIES OF VIQUESNEY DOUGHBOYS BY WALTER RYLANDER,
USING VIQUESNEY'S MOLDS
Perhaps due to financial difficulties resulting from the Depression of 1920 - 1921, for a period of four years beginning in January of 1922 and ending in January of 1926, Viquesney's American Doughboy Company was sold to and operated by his friend and business partner in Americus, Georgia, Walter Rylander. Toward the end of his tenure, however, Rylander began to put his own name on the copyright plate of the statue, and removed the title, "The Spirit of the American Doughboy". This may have irked Viquesney, who was subsequently able to reacquire his company and the Doughboy, never again letting them leave his possession.
