On mound at the top of a series of ten steps leading up to the four large plaques on the lawn of Carter County Courthouse on Main Street.
The left plaque inscription reads:
DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF
OUR COMRADES FROM CARTER COUNTY
WHO ENTERED THE SERVICE
OF THEIR COUNTRY,
THOSE WHO WERE WOUNDED AND
THOSE WHO GAVE UP THEIR LIVES
IN THE WORLD WAR OF 1917 – 1918

The dedication date doesn’t appear and attempts to learn it haven’t yet been successful. It’s been reported however, that Viquesney wrote a solicitation June 11, 1935 to those active in the fundraising activities. Since those activities had apparently already begun, it could have been dedicated November 11, 1935 and was likely dedicated no later than a date in 1936.
