Viquesney's last piece is thought to be "Comrades". The sculptor may have "borrowed" the idea from a WWI-era postcard by Archie Gunn, depicting an old Civil War Veteran greeting a young WWI Doughboy, and simply moved the scene up a generation, now with an old Doughboy greeting a young WWII G.I. Even the title, "The American Spirit", is similar to Viquesney's "The Spirit of the American Doughboy".
''Comrades'', reportedly Viquesney's last piece, 1946.
Archie Gunn's ''The American Spirit''. Did Viquesney ''borrow'' this theme when creating ''Comrades''?
