The original statue was toppled in 2008 and severely damaged. It was replaced with a bronze replica in 2011.
On November 10, 2022 the partially restored pieces of the original statue were put on preview display in the Anderson County Museum, in an exhibition called Andersonians in War. The display officially opened the next day, Veterans Day.
