"REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR" and "THE YANKS AGAIN" SERIES (1942)
''Remember Pearl Harbor''
Shortly after the start of WWII, Viquesney created the piece at left, "Remember Pearl Harbor". It's quite obviously a reworking of the 11.5" plaster version of his earlier WWI Doughboy statuette, only now dressed in a WWII G.I. uniform.
Continuing his efforts, the artist created a new series of WWII sculptures based on the theme "The Yanks Again", shown below in a grouping called "Eagle's Watch - The Yanks Again", which portrays a huge American eagle protecting a U.S. sailor, soldier and airman under its wings. The three figures were available as separate stand-alone statuettes, shown at bottom, and were titled "The Yanks Again on the Land", "The Yanks Again on the Sea", and "The Yanks Again in the Air", to honor the Navy, Army, and Air Force. There may have been a fourth piece devoted to the Marines, but it hasn't been seen as yet.
Viquesney's WWII tribute, ''Eagle's Watch'', incorporated the three figures shown below.
''The Yanks Again on the Sea''.
''The Yanks Again on the Land'' also came as a set of bookends.
''The Yanks Again in the Air''.
After his death in 1946, these and other Viquesney plaster miniatures continued to be produced by Frederic L. Hollis from a studio in Gosport, Indiana into the 1950s. On the wholesale price list below, there's a piece titled "The Marine, the Yank Again", which so far hasn't surfaced.
